Please think about this and what the implications are. Please ask him when you see him again if he truly believes in GOD. Period. And if not, ask him if he believes in the Devil or if he thinks that the devil exists because one cannot exist without the other.
Based on those answers you can do the following things…If he does not believe in GOD, it is useless to teach anything else, he won’t get the plan of salvation because he is listening to the devil. If he does not believe in the devil, as per his own words, you can know that his incredulity goes beyond unbelief or hardness of heart; he is being advised by the devil who is telling him that there is no devil, hell, etc. In other words, he believes more in knowledge or in science like the Gnostics or atheists whether he admits it or not. He is kind of an intellectual know it all type of guy.
There are only two choices. He believes that GOD is and that we are his children or he must necessarily believe that he is a inbred animal that comes from the monkey in a lengthy evolutionary process. If so, he does not have free agency, he is in bondage of darkness like the cave man that were born in captivity in Plato’s story of the caveman who get angry and beat you up when you lose them and tell them that there is light and a wonderful world outside the cave. There are no in betweens. Because the devil does not have to convince him or anyone that there is no GOD or else, he just have to convince people that he, the devil does not exist. If so, then GOD does not exist and that is how he takes away their free agency. Your friend has no clue about his identity as a son of God that he is made in the likeness and image of GOD. Again, if the devil does not exist for him, automatically GOD does not exist either. And that is how the devil is pulling him with flaxen cord or with his chains of hell. Here is the law and the testimony or the scriptural basis:

Now to deliver him from the chains of hell, maybe the identity story of Moses, you or me may help him. In the case of Moses, the devil, whatever the argument, came to tempt him and asked him to worship him as if he was a god, but Moses still had the spirit of GOD and detected him for he had no glory. So, Moses told him firmly that he was a Son of GOD to the similitude of his only begotten son and once was not enough, he asked him to depart at least thrice. And Moses born record of this but because of wickedness it is not had among the children of men.

The Devil wanted to confuse Moses about his identity telling him something different like when the scientist tell us that we come from the monkey or are the product of evolution, etc. Moses was a type of scholar, a very smart or intelligent man, he had many unanswered questions, so the devil tough to entice him with words of wisdom or so. You do not have to tell him all what I am telling you now. This is for your insight only. And despite or better than the explanations you give to your friend about the pre-existence or the plan of salvation, you have to testify to him that you are a son of GOD made in the likeness and image of GOD. No one can refute a testimony or what you truly believe. And if he does not believe anything at all, it is your testimony that will haunt him for the rest of eternity. And if he goes to hell, that is the only light that he is going to have until he is brought back to face the bar of GOD. This is what happened to Alma Jr. After the angel appeared to him, he felt the pains of hell, and in his exquisite suffering, he remembered the testimony of his father when he talked about one Jesus Christ who would come to redeem people from their sins. And he held on to that marvelous thought until he repented and the redemption of Christ made its effect upon him. Here is the law and the testimony:

These are the implications of spiritual bondage. In my personal case, I was born in Honduras , C.A.
Right there, they are taking or stealing our identity away because we cannot know for sure where we come from. This results on low self esteem and confusion. It would have been better had they told us that we are Asian or Middle Eastern, or Black or Anglo-Saxons, or even children of hell and death, but no, they made it worse in a way that we cannot tell who our fathers are. They are hope killers. And without knowing where we come from we know not who we are, and where we are going or the extent of our abilities and potential. And this is bondage. This is how the know it all intellectuals keep us low making us believe that we are primitive of third class citizens of the world we live in and that they are superior to us because they are more fit than us. And therefore they are our masters and we should work for them because what is in their brain is not in ours yet, at least, for a few more ions to come. And as a result of lack of identity and purpose in life, they have taken advantage of us for over five hundred and twenty years and counting. In sum, the devil does not want us to know the covenants and promises that GOD made with our fathers.
O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people.

That means that you and me Chadarara, are relatives one way or another and NOW we share in all these blessings. But that is not all, in the book of Mormon I learned that I AM ALSO A CHILD OF GOD and that is my spiritual Identity and my divine potential and my eternal heritage. I therefore have claim thru the merits of Christ and thru obedience, sacrifice and perseverance, as he did, to all the blessing of the children of Israel, to all the Blessings of the children of Ham, Son of Noah and above all, to all the Blessings of the Son of GOD because as he is, I am also a spiritual offspring of GOD. If we know who we are, we know were we come from and were we are going. And this is the aim of the plan of Salvation to save ourselves from bondage, from falsehood and to rise above the dust or our carnal nature so we can again meet and commune with GOD. If you internalize these things, you will be able to help your brothers and sisters, friends, relatives and their companions to see the light. And if you see the light, you can understand the benefits of the law and the light.
Maybe you should ask your friend if he knows who he is, where he came from and where he is heading in life and after death if he knows. There is a church video called:

I have prepared this manuscript as a result of your faith. I write much but few return to enquire. The concerns that you have are known to the LORD and I am here to make to you known his mind and will for our temporal and eternal profit because you are quick to observe or you have hears to give heed and are diligent. This is how the LORD operates and this is how the spirit of God is available to all, but sadly few are those that enquire of the LORD as you do.
